Basic Framework for Academic Letters

Definition: Eligible Subject Field

Any subject area which is taught during normal school hours of operation (currently, for high school 7:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.) is an eligible subject field for students to qualify for an academic letter. This also includes college courses, taught at Northside or an accredited college, university, or technical college.

Definition: Competitive Event

Any event for which the student offers him/herself in conjunction with a team or individually in an event which compares the student or team against another student or team from another public, private, or parochial school in the State of Georgia or any other State or Territory of the United States of America, or between the respective State or Nation against any other Nation.

Requirements:

1. The student must have taken a minimum of four units in the eligible subject field.

2. The student must take at least one elective course beyond the preceding noted four units in the eligible subject field.

3. The student must have an un-rounded 3.80 or higher grade point average in the eligible subject field.

4. The student must have competed in a competitive event in the eligible subject field for at least three years.

5. The student is responsible for obtaining documentation of item 4 above pertaining to the participation in competitive events for three of their four

    years in high school.

6. The student must have no out of school suspensions.

7. The student must make application for the academic letter.

8. The student is responsible for the purchase of a letter jacket if one is desired.

9. If a letter is received in the junior year, there will not be another letter in the senior year.

10. Multiple letters will not be awarded. Rather, after the first letter, pins for the letter will be awarded.
